ArchiTORTURE Survival Guide Part III:
Where to CAD?
Stephanie Cheng
It’s that time of the year again! School is almost over and students are swarming the campus career centre to search for summer employment positions. As most of you may already know, architecture is not exactly the most popular field in the job searching community—especially for us students, who are mainly searching for a student position at an architecture firm. Other than being interested in architecture and studying the subject, there is one particular element that seems to continuously pop up in the list of required qualifications: knowledge of Computer-aided Design (CAD).
I came across two of the most popular schools that offer CAD courses in Toronto; the rest were either specific programs that require you to enroll in a whole stream of other courses or online courses—mostly from the States. The two schools are George Brown College and Seneca College. To say that one is better than the other would be a bias. Both schools are almost equally popular among architecture students. However, because they seem so similar, I’ve provided a breakdown of what each one offers—in terms of their times and dates offered, number of levels, and most importantly, their fees and locations.
