Cafe 059 looking for volunteers - Spring 2010

The following is a summarized description of the program of study and application procedure for undergraduate architectural studies at the University of Toronto.

FIRST YEAR
Students must complete 4.0 full credit courses or their equivalent, including ARC131H1F Introduction to Architecture and ARC132H1S Contemporary Architecture, in their first year.

SECOND YEAR
Students apply for the Architecture Major programs, a.k.a. Subject POSts, in second year. There are two architectural major programs, one with concentration in Architectural Design and the other with concentration in History, Theory, Criticism.

Students can apply for the architectural major Subject POSts through ROSI when they have completed 4.0 full credit courses or their equivalent, including the ARC131H1F and ARC132H1S. In most cases, this will be at the end of first year. Students must achieve at least 70% in both of these courses. In the enrolment process, a set number of spaces will be given to the students with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (out of the total number of applicants). Getting 70% in the two first-year courses does not guarantee acceptance into the major programs.

THIRD YEAR
Please note that the Architectural Studies Specialist Program has been discontinued effective the 2006/07 academic year. However, the Program will honour those Specialist students currently in the Program. In addition, the Specialist option will be available to students currently in one of the two BA AS Majors for 2006/07 only. Program requirement courses will be offered to ensure students graduate from the program.

This means that students currently in first year university or who have just completed ARC131 and ARC132 will NOT have the option of choosing the specialist, once the get into the program. They only have the option of choosing one major, either the Design major (AS MAJ 2020) or the History, Theory, and Criticism major (AS MAJ 2390).

Students could choose to complete both majors if they wish. If they choose to do this, they should email Ana da Silva Borges (contact info below) informing her of such, so that she can counsel students on the process and program requirements.

FOURTH YEAR
Students can apply for graduate architectural studies at the end of their fourth year.

Feel free to email commentsbaass.info if you have any further questions. You may also contact Ana da Silva Borges, the Program Secretary of the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design.
